“Google’s car resets the boundary between human and computer, and it does so more dramatically, more decisively, then have earlier breakthroughs in programming, It tells us that our idea of the limits of automaton has always been something of a fiction. We’re not as special as we think we are (Carr, 10).”

I think this passage was memorable because it makes you wonder what the difference between a computer and a person is. Its impactful because it shatters the boundaries of what we thought the limits of technology were without redefining them in a finite way. It definitely made me wonder about the future of automation.

I wonder how far automation can go? Can it truly replace human input? And where will we be when it does?

“Automation bias is a particular risk for people who use decision support software to guide them through analysis or diagnoses (Carr, 70).”

I think the idea of automation bias and complacency is terrifying because we have all fallen into that trap before. The only way you can prevent it is by not trusting the device. If you don’t trust the device, though, then why do you have it?

My question is, what other steps should we take to help combat this?
